The tasa 790 012 (also called modelo 790 código 012, tasa 012, tasas 790 012 or the 790 012 fee) is the self-assessment form used to pay the Directorate-General of the Police for immigration documents: the Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) with its fingerprinting, the NIE assignment, the EU citizen registration certificate, residence certificates and other documents.

It differs from the tasa 790 052 in that the 012 pays for issuing the physical document at the police station, while the 052 pays for reviewing and deciding the permit at the Immigration Office. With a new authorisation you normally pay the 052 first and, once it is granted, the 012 for the TIE.

How to fill in form 790 012 step by step

Open the official form: go to the National Police website (fee 012).
Identification: NIE (or passport if you are applying for the NIE) and «apellidos y nombre» (surnames and first name) in a single field, exactly as in your document.
Address: street type, name, number, staircase, floor, door, phone, town, province and postcode.
Self-assessment: tick «Principal». «Complementaria» is only used to pay a difference, giving the previous receipt number.
Tick your procedure: choose the box for your case (see which box to tick). For certificates or extensions, enter the number of certificates or days and press Enter.
Declarant and payment: under «Declarante» just enter the town and today’s date; choose the payment method en efectivo (cash, for a bank or ATM) or adeudo en cuenta (direct debit), type the security code and click «Descargar impreso rellenado».

💡 Tip: if you are a family member of an EU or Spanish citizen, don’t tick the «first issue» TIE: your box is the €12 one. It’s the most common mistake.

The tasa 790 012 payment can be made in three ways, all accepted at the police station:

Take the 3 copies to a partner bank and pay in cash. They give you back your stamped copies.

🏧 At an ATM

Look for «Pago de tasas» or «Pago de recibos» (fee or bill payment), scan the barcode and pay by card. Staple the receipt to the form.

💻 Online

From your bank’s online banking (tax payments) or on the AEAT payment gateway with a digital certificate or Cl@ve. Keep the receipt with the NRC.

⚠️ Common mistakes when paying code 012 (and how to fix them)

Ticking the wrong box (e.g. €16.08 instead of €19.30 for a renewal). Fix: pay a complementary self-assessment (complementaria) for the difference with the original receipt number.

Paying the 052 instead of the 012. Fix: generate and pay the 012 and request a refund of undue payment (devolución de ingresos indebidos) for the other one.

Going to the appointment without paying. Fix: always pay beforehand; many police stations have no ATM nearby and you lose the appointment.

Reusing or photocopying a fee form. Fix: each form has a unique receipt number; generate a new one in your name.

The ATM can’t read the barcode. Fix: reprint in better quality or pay at the counter or online.
